Olivine is Pelikan’s Ink of the Year 2018 🙂 I know we already have 2019, somehow I left this one behind… This is my first review of a Pelikan ink, but I’ve used some of them already and I really like them 🙂
It’s a dark green, not as olive as you would expect though.
Flow – very good – I would say even 5,5/6. It’s more watery and I’d say in the middle of the wet side. As other Pelikans, it’s very reliable. It always starts immediately, can sit in a pen for a while and still not cause any issues.
Saturation – good/very good. It’s a calm ink, not overloaded with colour, very comfortable to use.
Bleeding – average. There’re only a couple of nearly-bled spots on a copy paper.
Feathering – minimal on a copy paper.
Shading – medium
Dry time – little better than average, about 20s on Rhodia.
Water resistance – none. There’s nothing left after 5 minutes under water.
It’s not my kind of green, so I wasn’t expecting a lot, but I like it more than I thought I’d be. It’s a great and reliable ink, so I used it with pleasure. I just wish it was warmer, more like Monteverde kind of olivine. If you like the colour and you haven’t bought it yet, you need to catch up! 🙂
- very good flow
- good behaviour on different papers
- calm colour, good for everyday use
- no maintaining problems
- lack of water resistance
